Jeroen received his bachelor degree in Biology in 2005 and his master’s degree in Biology and Science Communication in 2009 at Leiden University. He obtained a second Master’s degree in Environment and Resource Management at the VU University in Amsterdam.
At Leiden, Jeroen did two master internships: A research internship zoology & developmental biology. Breaking the puzzle of the evolutionary origin and development of snake fangs. And a science communication internship at CVPED on The Philippines. Translating scientific information on nature conservation into attractive communication material for local Philippine officials. At Amsterdam, Jeroen did an internship water management and climate change at ARCADIS. Developing a damage model for inundation of unembanked port industry at Rotterdam harbor.
The BIOMOT Project, set in motion by Prof. dr. Wouter de Groot, is the main project that I will be working on during my PhD. It addresses the motivational strength of ecosystem services and alternative ways to express the value of biodiversity. The aim and expected result of BIOMOT are a comprehensive rethinking of what value and motivation actually are for people, and to use that knowledge to improve policy measures for biodiversity.
