PhD Programme Environmental Sciences

PhD students carry out a programme of independent research and additional (limited) course work, culminating in production of a PhD thesis in typically four years.

PhD training programme

The PhD training programme consists of a number of professional courses and training in skills and personal effectiveness. The training programme is tailored to the needs of the PhD candidate and is determined in agreement with the supervisor of the thesis. Courses are offered by

• the Graduate School of the Faculty of Science and by
• SENSE, the Netherlands Research School for the Socio-Economic and Natural Sciences of the Environment

MSc degree

A MSc degree is required for admission to the PhD programme. If appropriate, the PhD degree will be a continuation of an MSc project. Next to a MSc degree more specific requirements relate to the specialization chosen and are determined in agreement with the supervisor of the thesis. Position

Every year CML has a very limited number of paid positions within EU or NWO projects available for PhD students that are filled on a merit basis. A paid position includes limited assistance in undergraduate teaching. It may also be possible to enter the PhD programme with self-obtained grants. Grants must provide for costs and for a bench fee.
